Review: Now that Lydia is old enough to have some expressed breast milk in bottles, we are keen to try and get her used to having the occasional bottle so that I can leave her with James for a few hours if need be. I have been sent a Lansinoh manual breast pump to test out, and so one afternoon last week I put the girls down for their naps and took advantage of the moment of peace to give it a go.
I’ve used two types of breast bump before; a Tommee Tippee manual pump, and a Philips electric one. I can honestly say I preferred this Lansinoh pump to both of these, as it was more comfortable to use.
The pump was easy to take apart and wash, with a small wire brush included for the fiddly bits. It can be sterilised by boiling in water for 10 minutes & leaving to air dry, removing the need for specialist sterilising equipment.

Once sterilised, the pump is incredibly easy to put together, and seems well designed & nicely compact once together. It is very lightweight and comfortable to hold & use one-handed. I love the superior rhythm control you have with a manual pump, and this pump allows you to have complete control whilst pumping one-handed. It is very quiet to use and the ComfortSeal cushion does a great job sealing around the nipple whilst being comfortable.
Lansinoh are generous with spare parts, including a spare diaphragm as well as two spare valves. Also included in the box are two breast milk storage bottles with lids. There is a stand that doubles as a flange cover during travel, to keep the pump clean in your bag, if you need to pump at work etc. The bottles are a nice size, being exactly right for “one good pumping session”, at least for me anyway!
Another plus for the Lansinoh pump is the fact that the pump and bottles are made from 100% Bisphenol-A free polypropylene, which is the preferred plastic for breastmilk storage. It is also all dishwasher safe.
This pump is a fantastic portable breast pump, and would be perfect for anyone who needs to take a pump to work, or prefers a manual pump for use at home, as I do. I really cannot recommend it enough, 5 stars!
